The ancient history of Yoga is found hidden in various Vedic sources. In the practice of Ayurveda, yoga becomes an important aspect of ensuring good health – both physical and mental. If you undertake a yoga retreat in Goa India, you will become aware of the importance of Yoga in the practice of purification.

Ayurveda and Yoga

Ayruveda and yoga have several things in common. Besides their roots in the historic Sanskrit sources, the Vedas, their focus is on a similar goal. Both Ayurveda and yoga are concerned with the purification of both physical and mental faculties. They also involved in controlling the mind and are working towards a union with the Absolute. If you attend a yoga retreat in Goa India, you will become aware of these goals and learn how to practice yoga in an attempt to achieve them.

Working Towards Physical and Mental Purification

Yoga involves a series of postures called asana. They work with your body energy or prana. A yoga retreat will help you learn about accessing the prana. It will also help you discover how the five major winds or energies act upon the body. These winds are:

  • Apana – involved in several functions, it rests below the navel. It moves air in and fluids out of your body while eliminating negative emotional and sensory experience
  • Samana – it resides in the stomach area. Handles digestive functions and aids the lungs
  • Udana – this upward moving force manages speech. It also has to do with both physical and spiritual growth
  • Vyana – this outward moving energy handles the lungs and heart. It is also responsible for the flow of thoughts and emotions
  • Prana – this forward moving energy is the vital force. It is the heart. It is associated with all sensory perceptions, mental impressions and is behind the animation of all things

Yoga follows certain steps in order to reach the ultimate freedom of choice. This is Moksha. Moksha is an experience almost beyond normal definition. It is beyond being and nonbeing. It is a way of experiencing freedom like never before. By taking part in a yoga retreat in Goa India, you grow yourself as a person. It is one way of opening yourself to yourself and what the universe has to offer.
